Mine Safety - Risk Management & Risk Culture (Singapore)

Date: 28-Jan-13 to 31-Jan-13
Location: Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay Hotel / Singapore / Singapore
Category: Mining Conferences & Trade Fairs

Risk management can be distinguished into two broad but related disciplines: One element is the fields of finance and insurance, primarily concerned with monetary gains and losses, and the management of operational risks, which focuses on the uncertainty inherent in the execution of the activities that mining organizations do in order to fulfil their goals and objectives. While this course will address broad (non-operational) risks associated with mining, it will focus primarily on operational risk.

Today, many countries have already incorporated risk management into their national mining safety and health legislation and regulations. Many others are intending to do so. Knowledge of these principles and practices can provide your organization an advantage in being prepared for those changes in addition to the direct benefits from the reduction of incidents, a reduction in overall risk and improved profitability.

For any industry to be successful it is to identify the hazards to assess the associated risks and to bring the risks to tolerable level. Hazard identification and risk analysis is carried for identification of undesirable events that can leads to a hazard, the analysis of hazard mechanism by which this undesirable event could occur and usually the estimation of extent, magnitude and likelihood of harmful effects. It is widely accepted within industry in general that the various techniques of risk assessment contribute greatly toward improvements in the safety of complex operations and equipment.

This course is a hands-on treatment of operational risk management in the mining industry. It covers basic concepts, principles, practices and standards that have enabled many companies to not only minimize injury and death on the job, but lower operating costs and improve profitability.

In addition to introducing basic principles and practices necessary to develop a company-specific risk management program, the course will also provide a review of many of the most commonly applied qualitative and quantitative risk assessment techniques, e.g., What-If Analysis, What-If/Checklist Analysis, Bow Tie Analysis (BTA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), Job Hazard/Safety Analysis (JHA/JSA), Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Workplace Risk Assessment and Control (WRAC).

If you are looking to advance your organization’s approach to mining hazards, are looking for new tools to improve regulatory compliance or simply want/need to learn more about this important and growing subject, this course will.
