At a time when Australia is engaged in a national discussion on marriage equality, on LGBTIQ aged care on protections for LGBTIQ people under the Sex Discrimination Act, this timely two day forum broadens the discussion on LGBTIQ affairs. Leaders from the LGBTIQ community who have worked for years to extend, enable and establish equal rights are joined by legal experts, researchers and providers in health and education, community and government practitioners to share insights into individual and government action, community engagement and broader coalition building to promote and protect the rights of LGBTIQ Australians.

In doing this we focus over the two days on health, education, government and social policy and legislation, gender and justice, human rights and politics and the representation of LGBTI stories in media, literature, arts and culture.

Themes over the two days will include:

The history and contemporary contexts of LGBTI experience in Australia
Examining activism - evolution of LGBTIQ activism and issues that have influenced how this have evolved
Health - HIV, Mental Health, Aged Care , Youth health, challenges for access of health services
Education - access and inclusion, opportunity, bullying and discrimination
Representation of the LGBTI experience in Australia's literary, arts and cultural milieus
Legislation, law and justice
Social and Government policy - examining how governments at all levels have implemented effective and supportive strategies to enable and support LGBTIQ affairs
Sexuality, policing and criminal justice
Politics, media and LGBTIQ issues
Drivers for reform and key elements in national strategy
Access and equity in services
Capacity building and governance for LGBTI organisations
Engaging the LGBTI community to expand knowledge and evidence base for best practice.
