About the Speaker

The Chief Guest of Honor and the Speaker of the evening, Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus had changed the lives of millions of poor women and others in Bangladesh and worldwide through “Grameen”, his Micro Credit system, now implemented in over 100 countries. He won the Highest Awards from the US President and US Congress in addition to Nobel Peace Prize, second to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He serves on the board of directors of the United Nations Foundation, a public charity created in 1998 by American philanthropist Ted Turner’s $1 billion gift to support UN causes. Yunus accepted the Forbes 400 Lifetime Achievement Award for Social Entrepreneurship last fall. According to Forbes online,” A room of billionaires stood for the son of poor Bangladesh peasants and cheered wildly.”

About the Event

Dr. Yunus will speak on Social Business and answer questions as we celebrate of 4th Anniversary of "Little Bangladesh", a neighborhood designated by the L.A. City Council in August 2010. The event will benefit Little Bangladesh.

The co-sponsors, among others, are Office of Mayor, City of Los Angeles, California Community Foundation, USBBF and MPAC. Dinner will be served as you enjoy a short cultural video.
