What is a Transition Ritual?
At Living Your Gifts, we specialize in bringing Ancient Wisdom into your Modern Life.
In this case, we are adapting for you, a "New Year" Ritual from the West African Dagara tradition.
Their year changes mid-January, when the transition ritual takes place.
It's Elemental
In the Dagara tradition, each year is 'ruled' by a different Element - Fire, Water, Earth, Mineral or Nature. Each Element has specific characteristics that the Transition Ritual recognizes. Traditionally, the Spirit and Guides of the previous year- in this case (2014) a Mineral year, are given gratitude, for what they brought into our lives, and the Spirit and Guides of the New Year, in this case (2015) an Earth year, are called and welcomed in.
Mineral guides communication and the transformation of 'stories' (personal and ancestral). Earth presides over the realm of heart and home, as well as balance, identity, nurturing, and empowerment. It aids our ability to become and stay grounded. We will access this knowledge in ritual, to guide us in transforming our stories and patterns, in order to prepare us to be grounded in the New Year.

Our New Year Ritual will consist of:
