Open to all participants across a broad spectrum of the community who need to be aware of the threat of winter weather. In particular, this should be of interest to emergency managers, first responders, small businesses, corporations, federal/state/tribal governments, NGOs, community organizations, and typical households who need to prepare and respond to hazards associated with winter storms.
 
Cost: There is no cost to attend training, however travel and lodging are the responsibility of the student or individual agency
 

 
Overview
The goals of this course are to enable participants to do the following:
• Understand the basic causes and characteristics of winter weather hazards, including snow, sleet, freezing rain, and extreme cold;
• Appreciate the complexities of the winter weather forecast process, including current strengths and weaknesses of computer models, so that they may better make informed decisions when winter weather threatens;
• Interpret official winter weather advisories, watches, and warnings from the National Weather Service; and
• Understand how to protect themselves, their families, and their organizations when winter weather threatens
